Nice To Meet You
Verónica
Mier & Terán
My roots are in México City, fate brought me
to the Netherlands in 1999, I was only going to work as an
au-pair for a year. But just before returning to México,
love intervened and I emigrated here for good in 2001.
I started my career as a photographer while working as a
lighting engineer at events for the company where I have
been working for 19 years. The magic of the lights and the
desire to capture those moments of spontaneity of the
expressions of the public and the artists, were the elements
that motivated me to study photography professionally, and
it was there where I developed more skills and knowledge in
the world of digital photography since when I started in the
world of photography I learned analogue.
I have a great passion and ability to capture the
spontaneity of the moment and people, in my photographs I
manage to make a connection between the viewer and the photo
and in this way I try to convey emotions of the protagonist
or the moment to the public.
My fascination for colour and moving light has helped me to
get portraits of Dutch artists on the podium, some light and
sound companies and events make use of my photos.
I have also worked for primary schools capturing spontaneous
moments where the presence of the camera is not noticed but
manages to immortalize those moments where children play or
study and thus transmit the school dynamics, these photos
are exhibited in school corridors, websites and calendars.
One of the most interesting photographic experiences was to
experience medical photography, to spend 8 hours in an
operating theatre making a complete report of an operation,
something that inspired me a lot.
I not only take portraits, I also let myself be enveloped by
the magic of nature and I try to take advantage of natural
light to capture dreamy landscapes, immortalise sunsets that
make you fall in love and above all I am passionate about
astrophotography where I let myself be enveloped by the
romanticism of the moon and its companions, the stars and
planets that accompany it.
Many times I just like to play with the lens, and explore
new ways, I love to play with light and speed to get
creative photos, and especially when it rains and I have the
opportunity to go out and enjoy the combination of the
reflections of light on water, every puddle of water gives
me a story.
In 2019 I mounted my first exhibition "Mexican women in the
Netherlands" their stories of migration and integration into
Dutch culture. This exhibition was presented at the
Cervantes Institute in Utrecht, at the Migrant House in
Amsterdam and at the Mexican Embassy in the Netherlands.
Unfortunately, due to the Covid pandemic, the exhibition can
no longer be shown due to the cancellation of the venues in
2020.
Restless, dreamy, creative, I make every photographic work
an event and give 100% of myself. I love challenges and
exploring new options.
